How to scan a City Deals code with your camera
Open your phone camera and point it at the QR code on the City Deals magazine. Tap the link that pops up to see the video or the deal.

Who this is for: Local neighbors using the magazine
Open the camera app on your phone. Point the lens at the QR code on the page. A small link or yellow bar will pop up on your screen. Tap that link to open the deal or watch the video.
Using your phone camera
Most new phones have a scanner built into the camera. You do not need a City Deals app. If your camera does not work, check your settings to make sure QR scanning is on. Hold the phone steady so the camera can see the code clearly.
Two ways to scan
Every ad in our magazine has two codes. The first code is for the VIDEO. This shows you a 30-second video of the business. The second code is for the DEAL. This shows you the offer you can use at the shop.
- Open Camera
Find the camera icon on your phone home screen and tap it.
- Aim at Code
Hold the phone over the magazine. Make sure the square code is in the middle of the screen.
- Tap the Link
A web address will appear. Tap it to see the business page.
- Use the Deal
Show the screen to the person at the shop to get your discount.
What happens after you scan
When you scan the DEAL code, you will see buttons on your phone. One button calls the shop directly. Another button opens a map to help you drive there. You can also see the exact offer to show the cashier.
Troubleshooting the scan
- Move the phone closer or further away.
- Make sure there is enough light in the room.
- Clean your camera lens with a soft cloth.
- Check if your phone is connected to the internet.
- Ask a friend to try with their phone.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to download an app?
No. You use the camera that is already on your phone. A City Deals app is not available yet.
What if my camera does not see the code?
Check your phone settings. Make sure 'Scan QR Codes' is turned on. You can also try a free scanner app from the store.
Where do these codes take me?
The VIDEO code takes you to a short video. The DEAL code takes you to a page with the shop's offer, phone number, and map.
